Every summer a bunch of geo nerds get together at the Esri User Conference in San Diego. The topics being discussed include the latest and greatest of Esri technology but by and large the conference has become a central place for everyone in the geo community to get together to discuss new trends, applications, and technology. Good fun! To get the most out of the event you need to prepare. Set up a collection of meetings, get trained on the latest demos the team put together for the booth and lay out your favorite threads to walk the floor with.

Laying out the properly themed threads for the Esri UC, where boats, tacos, and hot sauce come together. Once you’re camera-ready, join Maxar outside on Tuesday for the UC’s first-ever “Selfie from Space.” We’ll be meeting at the San Diego Harbor Pier behind the convention center at 11:55 a.m. PT on Tuesday and hoping for clear weather to have our picture taken by WorldView-3; we’ll have another opportunity at the same time on Wednesday if it’s too cloudy. Visit Maxar booth #1701 to learn how you can get a poster file of the #selfiefromspace. One of the things that amazes me about the industry right now is that it is not just about geo geeks anymore but rather location tech has become omni present. This is only going to accelerate. Will July in San Diego start looking like SxSW? Probably not, but as more developers get in on the action we are going to see new use cases come up that we never expected. We have only just scratched the surface. For this year’s show I am primarily excited about seeing big data use cases and technologies. I want to see people asking questions of their state or country rather than just zooming in on an AOI. At Maxar we are investing in these applications through our Geo Big Data initiative to understand the information locked inside our 3,000,000 sq. km. of imagery we collect every day.

Stop by booth #1701 and catch some of the fantastic tech talks that we have lined up for the show:
